Welcome to JMS Spinning Wheels. We are a small family shop located in Kansas City.
An interesting journey.....
I have had some friends ask me how I got into making spinning wheels. The simple answer is: my daughter wanted one. And after looking at a lot of different ones, new, used, and antique,we were a bit surprised at the materials used by some. So I decided I could make her one, and far cheaper then the commercial ones she had looked at, and out of quality solid hardwoods.
After she had the first Cassandra 6 months, a couple of friends wanted one as well. So, our shop was born after talking with a friend who also sells on line.
One friend in Nebraska says it works better then high priced ones he has spun on, and sent the review on the wheel page.
Well, it also started an interesting research adventure into spinning wheels, history, design, and makers of the past. The hobby workshop is now a wheel building shop. My wife, daughter and I have done historical re-enactment with the SCA for 30 years, so this has brought some old designs from the past forward in my mind that have not been made in hundreds of years in any volume, and they will soon be available in the shop as well.
It makes my wife happy I am doing something with all those tools I have bought over the years, and I also got to buy some new ones. She is amused that I have also bought some unique antique wheels that are not produced anymore.
Thank you for visiting us.
